Besides constantly rehashing the 911 to pass off as a new design, there’s one other thing that Porsche is very good at: making cracking final editions.
As a parting shot for the Cayman as we know it, they came up with a special model called the Cayman S Sport.
Just 700 Cayman S Sports were built and Singapore has only a handful of them.
Taking after the handsome GT3’s looks, the Cayman S Sport boasts black 19-inch SportDesign alloys, black mirrors and intakes.
There is also has a matte sticker on the flanks (it’s almost invisible on the car photographed), bi-xenon headlights, Sports Chrono Package (including the dash-mounted analogue stopwatch and upgraded sports traction control), sports seats and Alcantara trimmings on the steering and gear lever, among other things.
Oh, there’s also a numbered plaque to mark the model’s rarity.
More significantly, the Cayman S Sport receives an 8bhp power upgrade and a more vocal exhaust, both of which are only apparent when the engine is stretched.
Driving No. 85 out of 700 proves the essential rightness about the Cayman S.
While the car is as comfortable as almost any high-end GT car (okay, the ride is firm), there’s a sense of purpose and tautness in the way it goes about its business.
Grip is plentiful, as expected, but there’s also a high level of delicacy and handling finesse that implores the driver to learn, stretch and enjoy the wonderfully balanced chassis.
The Cayman S Sport has a special steering rim and sports seats that only accentuate the sporting sensations.
Meanwhile, the 5-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox does a good job of balancing ease of use with the pleasing savagery expected of a sporting transmission.
