Champion Motors has launched the all-new, second-generation Suzuki Ignis in Singapore.
The first Ignis, introduced in the early 2000s, was a compact hatchback. A zesty Ignis Sport variant was also available.
The current model is now a compact crossover that’s equipped with a mild hybrid drivetrain.
A NEW BODY STYLE
The new Suzuki Ignis has a cheerful and fun design, with elements inspired by past models.
The headlights within the front grille, for instance, are inspired by the Cervo, while the blacked-out A- and B-pillars are reminiscent of the ones on the Swift. The clamshell bonnet is clearly inspired by the Vitara.
The Ignis is available in single-tone paint colours and seven dual-tone hues.
INTERIOR DESIGN AND SAFETY
The Ignis’ cockpit is a mix of sweeping lines and rounded edges. Despite its compact dimensions, the interior offers ample headroom and legroom.
To enhance the model’s versatility, there are 50:50 split-folding rear seats. Boot capacity is 260 litres with the backrests upright, but folding them expands this to 521 litres.
In terms of equipment, the Ignis comes with the Suzuki Safety Support (ADAS), a suite of safety features that helps prevent and mitigate accidents.
The active safety features include a pre-collision system, Lane-Departure Warning and a Weaving Alert function. Six airbags are standard.
The car is also equipped with Dual Camera Brake Support (DCBS), which uses stereo cameras to detect vehicles and pedestrians, and helps prevent mishaps through warnings and automatic braking.
MILD HYBRID DRIVETRAIN
The new Suzuki Ignis is powered by a 1.2-litre inline-4 that provides 82hp and 107Nm. It is equipped with a mild hybrid system that includes an integrated starter generator, which helps deliver improved performance and fuel economy.
Suzuki claims the Ignis can average 18.5km per litre. The model is classified as VES neutral.
Like its Swift sibling, the Ignis sits on Suzuki’s Heartect platform. A large percentage of lightweight, high-tensile steel has been used in its construction, which enables the crossover to weigh in at a relatively light 890kg.
The single-tone model is currently priced at $108,900, while the dual-tone version costs $1000 more. Both figures are inclusive of COE.
