Motor Image Enterprises has unveiled the new Crosstrek e-BOXER Hybrid, an SUV that succeeds the XV.
The launch, which took place at Suntec City Tower 3 atrium, introduced the Crosstrek nameplate to Singapore. ‘Crosstrek’ was previously only used in North American markets – in other countries, the model was called XV.
Subaru says the Crosstrek has a “playful design that’s fun to look at.” Key elements include a bold-looking front end and plastic cladding on the flared fenders that lend the car its tough-looking character.
The SUV is offered in 10 paintwork colours, including three that are unique to the model: Oasis Blue, Offshore Blue Metallic and Sun Blaze Pearl.
The Crosstrek is the second Subaru model here after the Forester to be equipped with the e-BOXER Hybrid powertrain. The SUV is primarily powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre flat-four producing 148bhp and 196Nm of torque.
Said engine has been further improved with a new cylinder head and pistons to benefit efficiency, performance and refinement. The powerplant is paired to an electric motor producing 16.5bhp and 66Nm of torque. The carmaker says it is designed to “provide quiet, smooth and strong performance in all driving conditions.”
Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system is standard. Further enhancing traction is the Vehicle Dynamics Control System and Dual-Function X-Mode. X-Mode offers selectable drive modes for surface conditions such as dirt, mud and snow.
Helping keep occupants safe is Enhanced EyeSight 4.0, the latest version of the Subaru’s suite of safety and driver assistance functions. It now has three cameras following the addition of a new wide-angle monocular camera.
The brand claims the system is even better at helping the driver detect pedestrians and two-wheelers, as apart from the third camera, the stereo cameras’ lateral coverage has doubled.
Other standard functions include Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Departure Prevention. Enhanced EyeSight 4.0 qualifies as Level 2 ADAS semi-autonomous driving technology.
Inside, the Crosstrek features a powered, 10-way adjustable driver’s seat and eight-way electrically adjustable passenger’s seat. The infotainment, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (both wireless) is accessed via a new 11.6-inch HD touchscreen.
Prices for the new Crosstrek e-BOXER Hybrid start from $216,800 with COE.
