The opening of the HPC station in Johor also marks the beginning of construction of the 12 charging points along Malaysia’s North South Highway.
Porsche and Shell have opened a high-performance charging (HPC) station for electric vehicles in Tangkak, Johor.
The launch of the facility also marks the beginning of construction of the cross-country charging network, which consists of 12 charging points along Malaysia’s North South Highway.
This will be the first HPC EV network in Southeast Asia and Shell’s first cross-country charging network. When borders eventually reopen, these charging stations can help facilitate a drive between Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
The partnership between Porsche and Shell will see six Shell stations in Malaysia outfitted with 180kW direct-current (DC) chargers, which will offer the fastest charging capacity across Malaysia and later up to Bangkok, Thailand.
A 180kW DC charger offers fast charging times. For instance, it takes 30 minutes to charge a Porsche Taycan from zero to 80% battery capacity, providing another 390km (WLTP) of range.
CHARGING RATES
Shell Recharge HPC pay-per-use customers will pay RM20 for every five minutes. All Malaysian EV customers can register for Shell Recharge Gold Subscription, a plan which includes a 40% discount for the first 10 hours annually, which is R12 per five minutes for the first 25 minutes.
Porsche Taycan owners will be automatically registered as Platinum members as part of the ownership programme, which entitles them to benefits from Shell in Singapore and Malaysia.
Taycan owners will receive a discount of S$0.10/kWh off the prevailing retail rate in Singapore from 16 Feb 2022. In Malaysia, they will receive 50% discount for the first 12 hours per year.
Dr Henrik Dreier, Director New Business Fields, Porsche Asia Pacific, said: “At Porsche, we are committed to driving the future of mobility in South East Asia, as we pursue a carbon neutral balance sheet across our entire value chain by the year 2030.”
“Our partnership with Shell is a result of well-aligned sustainability objectives and will further supplement our range of charging solutions for electric vehicle owners, with specific benefits accorded to Porsche owners.”
“With this new high performance charging network, we are making what was once a vision – long-distance, cross-border emissions-free travel – now a reality.”
