The new models are named 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S, paying tribute to the 718 racecar, the iconic legend that was born in 1953 and took the 1960s by storm by claiming over a thousand racing victories across the globe, from Sebring to Targa Florio to Le Mans.
The new 718 Boxster models are pure roadsters that make a clear statement, standing out from their predecessors. The broader front, thanks to the horizontal geometry of the air intakes, adds a striking sense of dynamism and power. Its side profile is even more distinctive, with large fenders and doors contoured purposefully to direct headwind into the air intakes for the newly developed turbocharged engines.
The rear of the new models is a strong expression of the superlative sporty performance that they’re capable of. The cleanly defined lines and slim tail-lights that are connected by a solid accent trim are all designed to add width and prowess to the sleek overall silhouette of the new 718 Boxster models.
A quintessential Boxster feature, the fabric roof, can be opened and closed in just 9 seconds up to a speed of 50km/h.
The centrepiece of the 718 Boxster model range is the newly developed turbocharged flat 4-cylinder engine that beats with the same fighting spirit that delivered victories for the original 718. With its 2-litre engine, the 718 Boxster develops 300 horsepower, while the 2.5-litre 718 Boxster S employs a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, generating 350 horsepower. The new engines are capable of delivering greater performance than the previous generation and are also up to 14 percent more efficient than their predecessors.
Additionally, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is available as an option, which lowers ride height by 10 millimetres, keeping the Boxster occupants closer to the ground and lowering the overall centre of gravity.
“The 718 badge carries with it deep racing roots and rich motoring heritage. The new 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S are well-poised to carry on its impressive legacy. Open, carefree and adventurous, they are lighter and can go further faster and more efficiently, thanks to intelligent use of the right materials. They don’t excel and belong only on the track, but also on everyday city roads as well. One thing is clear — the new 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S were made for the sport of it, engineered to unite the sporting spirit of the legendary Porsche 718 with the sports car of tomorrow. They are not intended to be confined to a sheltered garage, but rather unleashed for the pleasure of everyday driving,” said Mr. Karsono Kwee, executive chairman of Eurokars Group.
“The Porsche 718 Boxster not only looks stunning, its new 4-cylinder turbocharged boxer engine is extremely responsive, sounds right and provides the performance you need to enjoy the drive,” said Dr. Henrik Dreier, general manager Singapore of Porsche Asia Pacific.
The 718 Boxster starts from $258,788 and the 718 Boxster S starts from $316,588 (both prices without COE).
