A police car was involved in an accident with three cars and three motorcycles in a Jurong East carpark last Thursday (March 9).
Photos showed varying degrees of damage to the vehicles, including smashed bumpers and shattered windscreens. All were parked except the police car.
Eyewitnesses told Shin Min Daily News that there were two officers – a man and a woman – in the police car. The male officer, said to be the driver, sustained light injuries.
No one else was injured in the incident near Block 218, Jurong East Street 21, which occurred at about 7.30am.
According to the evening paper, the police car appeared to have lost control and mounted a kerb before knocking into a silver saloon first, followed by a grey multi-purpose vehicle and a white car, before coming to a stop. Three motorbikes parked in a corner were also damaged.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said the driver of the police car declined to be taken to hospital.
A police spokesman said investigations are ongoing.
Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu, the MP for Yuhua constituency, said in a Facebook post yesterday that she had been informed of the accident.
Ms Fu said one of the damaged cars had been pushed against the lift shaft of a Housing Board block, but she assured residents the damage was not structural and did not compromise safety.
“Jurong East NPC has contacted the affected parties, and we are working together to offer additional support and assistance to the vehicle owners and their families,” she wrote, referring to the neighbourhood police centre.
“I am relieved to learn that we have escaped serious injury. I stand ready to assist the vehicle owners who have suffered damage.”
