Nissan aims to achieve carbon neutrality across the its operations and the life cycle of its products by 2050.
The Japanese carmaker says it will pursue further innovations in electrification and manufacturing in a few strategic areas in order to achieve this.
These include the development of battery technology to develop cost-competitive and more efficient electric vehicles. It also plans to further develop its e-POWER electrified powertrain for greater energy efficiency.
Elsewhere, the development of a battery ecosystem to support de-centralised, onsite power generation for buildings with renewable energy sources is also planned. The manufacturer will increase its collaboration with the energy sector to support the de-carbonisation of power grids.
Finally, the company plans to develop manufacturing process innovations to support higher productivity in vehicle assembly, starting with the Nissan Intelligent Factory initiative.
It is also targeting greater energy and material efficiencies to support longer-term carbon neutrality ambitions. The firm says it will electrify all its new vehicle offerings in its key markets, which include Japan, China and the US, by 2030.
