Skoda Singapore has announced the launch of the new Superb, the brand’s flagship model.
The new Skoda Superb is based on the third-generation model that was launched four years ago. Recently updated, it now has a host of extensive updates that improve its performance, safety and connectivity.
Prices start from $141,900 with COE.
REFRESHED DESIGN
Though largely similar to the outgoing model, the latest Skoda Superb sports several key styling changes. There’s a new and slightly longer front bumper, while the grille now has double instead of single slats.
At the rear, the “Skoda” lettering now stretches across most of the boot lid, emphasising the car’s presence. You’ll also notice new LED tail-lights, which have dynamic indicators.
When activated, these indicators illuminate in an “outward” motion, which supposedly makes them more noticeable. One of the first brands to utilise such a function is Audi, which like Skoda, also belongs to the Volkswagen Group.
IMPROVED SAFETY
For enhanced safety, the new Skoda Superb now has Front Assist as standard. This system uses visual and audio alerts to warn the driver of a potential collision, and will apply the brakes in an emergency (i.e. if the driver does not slow down).
Front Assist is complemented by Predictive Pedestrian Protection, which performs an emergency stop if it detects a pedestrian in front of the vehicle.
Other safety features include Park Assist with Manoeuvre Assist, which should come in handy when attempting to parallel park this lengthy limo, and Side Assist, which detecs and warns the driver of vehicles in the blind spots.
Infotainment wise, the Superb Ambition comes with the Bolero system that has an 8-inch touchscreen. The top-end Superb Laurin & Klement (L&K) model, on the other hand, has a Columbus system with a 9.2-inch screen.
The Skoda Superb L&K also comes with Virtual Cockpit, a digital instrument cluster that replaces the analogue one in the older model. It also has a Canton audio system with 11-speakers and a subwoofer as standard.
NEW DRIVETRAIN
The previous Superb was available with either a turbocharged 1.8-litre or turbocharged 2-litre engine. This time around, both variants sold in Singapore are powered by a new generation turbocharged 2-litre engine.
The specifications are:
ENGINE 1984cc, 16-valves, inline-4, turbocharged
MAX POWER 188hp (140kW) at 4180-6000rpm
