Mercedes-Benz has taken the covers off its A-Class Saloon in Singapore, nine months after it debuted the A-Class hatchback.
The launch, which took place at Esplanade Annexe Studio last night, featured the A200 and A250 Saloon variants.
WHAT IS THE A-CLASS SALOON?
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon is the entry-level sedan in the luxury carmaker’s lineup. It is built on the same platform that underpins the A-Class five-door hatch.
As such, the A-Class Saloon’s front end closely resembles that of its hatchback sibling’s. The former, however, has a slightly different tail-light design.
Both models have the same wheelbase length of 2729mm and offer identical legroom. The A-Class Saloon, however, has slightly more headroom.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon, however, is not as practical as the CLA. Its 420-litre cargo hold is 40 litres less than the CLA’s.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT INSIDE
The carmaker’s MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) is standard. You’ll have a pair of those 10.25-inch digital displays for the instrument panel and infotainment system.
The 64-colour mood lighting is also standard, along with safety features such as Active Brake Assist and Active Parking Assist with Parktronic.
Buyers can further equip the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon with optional features, such as Blind Spot Assist, Active Distance Assist and MBUX Innovation package.
The latter includes a convenient heads-up display for the driver.
WHAT ARE THE AVAILABLE VARIANTS?
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon is currently available in three variants: A200 Progressive, A200 AMG Line and A250 AMG Line.
The A200 variants are powered by a turbocharged 1.3-litre 4-cylinder engine that produces 163hp and 250Nm. Both accomplish the century sprint in 8.1 seconds.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon A250 is the range-topper. It has a turbocharged 2-litre with 224hp and 350Nm of torque, and a zero to 100km/h time of 6.3 seconds.
Like its A200 siblings, the A250 also has a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Prices for the A200 variants start at $163,888, while the A250 is $187,888. All three models are VES neutral.
