The range-topping Mercedes-AMG model is now in town, following the arrival of the Mercedes-AMG GT63 4Matic+. Launched yesterday evening at Gardens by the Bay, it is currently priced at $1,196,888.
The AMG GT63 features classic sports car proportions, with a long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen, and short overhangs. An AMG-specific grille and power domes on the bonnet, along with large 21-inch wheels, add to the car’s dynamic styling.
The fastback body style adds sleekness to the car’s character. Meanwhile, further hinting at the coupe’s performance are the slim taillights that make the ‘shoulders’ look even wider, and the quad-exhausts found by the diffuser.
Beneath the bonnet is a twin-turbocharged 4-litre V8 that kicks out 577bhp and 800Nm of torque. Channelled through a 9-speed automatic transmission, the GT63 smashes the century sprint in 3.2 seconds.
Helping the engine get its power to the road is the car’s 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system with fully variable torque distribution. Depending on the driving situation and/or the driver’s demands, torque can either be evenly split between the front and rear axles or just sent to the rear, making the car rear-wheel drive.
For handling, the AMG GT63’s equipment includes multi-link front and rear suspension, with the steering knuckles, wheel carriers and suspension links all constructed from forged aluminium to reduce unsprung weight. AMG Active Ride Control, which varies the damping forces and utilises an active anti-roll bar, helps provide the driver the desired ride-handling balance.
Inside, the AMG GT63 comes with goodies such as AMG sports seats with integrated headrests, and AMG-specific displays for the instrument panel. For practicality, the rear seats can supposedly accommodate occupants up to 1.5 metres tall. And thanks to the fastback body style, boot capacity ranges from 321 litres (rear backrests up) to 675 litres (backrests folded).
Now, for those seeking something rarer and more exclusive, there’s the AMG GT63 Pro 4Matic+ Motorsport Collectors Edition. Only 200 units are slated for production, and according to Mercedes-Benz, only two are earmarked for Singapore.
Unique to the AMG GT63 Motorsport Collectors Edition is its obsidian black metallic paintwork with Petronas-coloured stripes that are inspired by the Mercedes-AMG F1 racecar. Further helping the model stand out are the silver Mercedes-Benz stars across the rear flanks, which are hand-painted.
Other distinct features include carbon ceramic brakes, Petronas-coloured details in the interior, and a specially numbered badge on the centre console to highlight the rarity of the model. Each owner will also be given a customised and edition-specific AMG interior car cover.
As the ‘Pro’ variant, this AMG GT63 has been given a power bump over the ‘normal’ model. Instead of 577bhp and 800Nm, the 4.0-litre V8 now makes 603bhp and 850Nm of torque. However, the car’s zero to 100km/h time of 3.2 seconds remains unchanged.
The AMG GT63 Pro 4Matic+ Motorsport Collectors Edition is probably the most expensive brand-new AMG model here. No prices have been provided, but Mercedes-Benz Singapore indicated that it is on application.
