Mazda North American Operations have announced the addition of the turbocharged Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine to the 2021 Mazda 3 powertrain offering in the US.
The Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine will deliver 250hp and 434Nm of torque with 93-octane fuel or 227hp and 420Nm of torque with 87-octane fuel.
This variant will be the most powerful one in Mazda’s lineup. However, it is unlikely to be the high-performance model that enthusiasts have been hoping for, as Mazda has not specified any suspension, brake or chassis upgrades.
Mazda claims the engine has been calibrated in the 3 so as to deliver the unique driving dynamics expected by its most passionate drivers. Paired with Mazda’s predictive i-Activ AWD (all-wheel-drive), the new drivetrain will deliver greater responsiveness and confidence.
The Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a Bose 12-speaker premium audio system. There will also be 8.8-inch infotainment display with Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio, two front USB inputs and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry.
Unique to the turbocharged Mazda 3 are a heated leather wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, a frameless auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and chrome trimmings around the start button and glove box.
Additional standard equipment on the Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo includes larger tailpipes, 18-inch black aluminium alloy wheels and gloss black heated door mirrors. The Mazda3 2.5 Turbo comes with an additional “TURBO” badge on the trunk and on the engine cover.
A rear-view camera, LED daytime running lights, automatic on/off LED signature headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers and a shark fin antenna also add to the features list. The sedan also features a gloss black front grille and sleek lower front bumper decoration.
