Kia has revealed the new K8 luxury sedan.
KIA K8: BOLD DESIGN
The car sports a frameless “Tiger Nose Grille” that features a diamond lattice pattern. The K8 also gets Kia’s new logo above that grille.
The elongated yet sporty profile is said to take its inspiration from luxury yachts. A diamond chrome finish also runs along the bottom of the doors and finishes its journey at the rear lamps.
Strong, dropping shoulders add to the drama of the K8 at the rear, while a clean, tailored spoiler is at the end of the sporty roofline.
Below the spoiler lip is a futuristic-looking horizontal tail-light that carries across the jewel patterned arrangements from the front and side and connects the K8’s next-generation LED rear light clusters.
AN AUTOMOTIVE LOUNGE
In the cabin of the Kia K8 is a panoramic curved display. It links a 12-inch digital cluster and a 12-inch infotainment system, bringing together the K8’s connectivity and infotainment technologies.
A first for Kia, said system promises ease-of-use, as well as a modern style.
Optimally positioned for the driver and front passenger is a centre console that features wood-based cupholders and glossy soft-touch switches.
ERGO MOTION SEATS
The Kia K8 also features an ergonomically-advanced driver’s seat that uses seven air pockets to help provide an optimal seating position for when he or she is driving.
Called the Ergo Motion Seat, it even has a “comfort stretching” setting. This mode utilises the air pockets of the hip and backrest areas of the seat to create the effect of stretching while sitting down.
There is also a “smart support” function that tenses the seat against the body of the driver. It engages when sport mode is selected or when the vehicle speed exceeds 130km/h.
The function also lowers the height of the hip area of the seat and strengthens the support to the side bolsters.
A third mode called “posture assistance” adjusts the air pouches located around the hip and back areas of the seat when driving for more than one hour to provide improved comfort.
The K8 is also the first Kia to feature audio technology from Meridian in the form of a 14-speaker premium surround sound system. There is also an all-new steering wheel design.
Backseat passengers in the K8 have a multi-functional, fully-connected armrest that has a USB port, sliding cup holders and a media control device.
KIA K8: POWERTRAINS
The Kia K8 will be available with a 296hp 3.5-litre GDI Smartstream engine paired with an all-wheel-drive system.
A 2.5-litre GDI engine, which delivers 195bhp and 248Nm, is also available. Like the Smartstream unit, the 2.5 4-cylinder features GDI and MPI dual injection technology for optimised fuel injection.
The entry level powertrain in the new K8 is a refreshed version of Kia’s 1.6-litre T-GDI engine, which will be available internationally from the first half of this year.
An 8-speed automatic transmission, designed and developed in-house, accompanies the 2.5 GDI engine and the 3.5 GDI and LPI Smartstream derivatives.
