The Jeep Renegade 4xe is centred on the pillars of efficiency, performance and responsibility. It will be the most fuel-efficient Jeep SUV ever, with the new 4xe technology offering zero tailpipe emissions in full electric mode.
BLUE’S CLUES
The new Jeep Renegade 4xe stands out from its internal combustion engine counterparts with striking blue “Jeep”, “Renegade” and “4xe” badges. An additional push cover on the vehicle’s left side, towards the rear, covers the charging port and is unique to the 4xe model.
Inside the cabin, a 7-inch TFT colour display and Uconnect NAV with 8.4-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and DAB radio are offered as standard.
Black accents adorn the air vents, speakers, and centre console bezels on the Longitude and Limited trims, while the Trailhawk trim sports Ruby red accents.
The Renegade 4xe also features a new 6-speed automatic transmission selector, and an updated Selec-Terrain rotary control with eAWD modes (4WD Lock, 4WD Low, Hill Descent Control) to engage the different driving modes – Auto, Snow, Mud & Sand, and Rock – including the new Sport mode.
POWER AND PERFORMANCE
The Jeep Renegade 4xe pairs a turbocharged 1.3-litre petrol engine with an electric motor located between the rear axle, which is powered by an 11.4kWh battery. Jeep claims an all-electric range of 41km on the World harmonised Light-duty vehicles Test Procedure cycle.
On its own, the petrol engine delivers either 128bhp or 178bhp. The additional 59bhp produced by the electric motor gives the Jeep Renegade 4xe a total of 187hp in the Longitude and Limited version, or 237bhp in the Trailhawk model.
The electric motor produces 250Nm of torque, while the combustion engine delivers 270Nm.
Acceleration from zero to 100km/h is accomplished in around 7.5 seconds for the Trailhawk model, and a top speed of 130km/h is possible in full electric mode. Top speed in hybrid mode is 200km/h.
JEEP RENEGADE 4XE: TRACTION
The legendary Jeep off-road capability is guaranteed thanks to the Jeep Active Drive Low system that is fitted on all 4xe trims. Thanks to the new 4xe technology, traction to the rear axle is not provided by a prop shaft but through the electric motor.
This allows the two axles to be separated for independent control of torque in a more effective way than a mechanical system, with traction being delivered to the rear wheels immediately when needed.
The Jeep Selec-Terrain traction control system manages the AWD system on Renegade 4xe and offers up to five dynamic modes – Auto, Sport, Mud/Sand, Snow and Rock – as well as the option to choose either 4WD Lock or 4WD Low traction modes.
NEW SAFETY SYSTEMS
The Jeep will go on sale in the US with a suite of advanced safety systems. These include high-visibility full LED head lights, Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning Plus.
A Drowsy Driver Detection system – the first in any Jeep – also makes its premiere in the Jeep Renegade 4xe.
