Ineos Automotive has announced its acquisition of Mercedes-Benz’s Hambach facility. It will utilise the new facility to build the Ineos Grenadier 4×4 from late 2021 onwards.
The Hambach facility is one of Europe’s most modern automotive manufacturing sites, and has an excellent track record amongst Mercedes plants for the quality of its output.
Ineos states that the site’s location on the German-French border (it is just 200km from Stuttgart) gives excellent access to supply chains, automotive talent and target markets.
The firm also affirms that it remains on track to meet its plans to deliver the Grenadier to customers by early 2022.
Under the terms of the acquisition, Mercedes-Benz will contract Ineos to continue to produce the smart EQ fortwo and some Mercedes-Benz components at Hambach.
