HMGICS (Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore) donated an Ioniq 5 crossover to SIT (Singapore Institute of Technology), following both parties’ signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
Following this, both HMGICS and SIT highlighted their commitment to several goals, which include energy storage technologies, research in electric mobility, education, and training.
The Ioniq 5, the first made-in-Singapore EV, will be utilised as a learning tool for students and faculty. It will facilitate applied research and coursework in EV technology and other related fields. SIT will also use the Ioniq 5 in its CET (Continuing Education and Training) programmes, which will enhance the learning experience in areas that include V2G (vehicle to grid), advanced diagnostics, and EV charging infrastructure.
SIT students and faculty will also benefit from industry attachment opportunities at HMGICS. The partnership will facilitate the exchanging of technical expertise and development of CET courses for HMGICS employees.
Dr Hyun Sung Park, CEO of HMGICS, said, “At HMGICS, we believe the future of mobility is shaped not only by technology but also by the people who drive progress forward. By integrating real-world applications into education, we aim to equip students and professionals with the skills needed to thrive in the evolving mobility landscape.”
Professor Chua Kee Chaing, President of SIT, added, “HMGICS’ gift of the IONIQ 5 will strengthen applied learning and research in sustainable mobility at SIT. This state-of-the-art EV enables more authentic learning for our students and provides a very good platform for our faculty to further innovate on sustainable mobility solutions. Together with HMGICS, we are committed to driving innovation and fostering a greener, more connected future in mobility,” said Professor Chua Kee Chaing, President, SIT.
