The Public Transport Council (PTC) yesterday unveiled a list of 21 recommendations, the bulk of which are to help commuters with special needs.
These include getting bus drivers to be more aware of visually impaired commuters waiting at bus stops, and developing apps which notify those with hearing disabilities of train disruptions.
Also among the proposals – which are now being evaluated by the Land Transport Authority and public transport operators – are to ensure that yellow lines are put on escalators and stairs at MRT stations to help those with poor vision.
The PTC also called for more public education to teach commuters how to assist others with special needs, and suggested having a caring commuter award.
