GMC has introduced the 2022 Hummer EV Edition 1, a first-of-its kind “supertruck” with zero emissions.
The fully electric GMC Hummer EV is driven by General Motors’ all new Ultium batteries and Ultium Drive, GM’s proprietary EV drive units.
Initial output estimates from General Motors stand at 1000hp and 15,592Nm of torque. Responsible for these figures are three separate motors within two Ultium drive units that give the Hummer EV four-wheel-drive.
AN ELECTRIC OFF-ROADER
The Hummer EV’s party tricks don’t end at the ridiculous numbers.
For instance, the GMC Hummer EV can “crabwalk” by steering all wheels at the same angle for better manoeuvrability on challenging terrain.
There’s also Adaptive Air Suspension, which allows drivers to raise the Hummer EV’s ride height by up to 149mm.
The car will also come with what GM calls “Ultravision”. This function collates the feed from 18 underbody cameras to help drivers navigate obstacles.
Those planning to ford water will also be happy to note that the system comes with a wash function to help clear debris off the cameras.
Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT 35-inch-OD tyres are also offered as standard in the US. They can supposedly ford water up to 610mm deep.
FURTHER AND FASTER ADVENTURE
The GMC Hummer EV also supports a maximum charging speed of 350kW from a 800V charger, allowing customers to gain nearly 160km of range for every 10 minutes of charging.
GM estimates a maximum range of 563km.
GMC HUMMER EV: LOUD YET QUIET
Edition 1 models of the GMC Hummer EV will also get goodies that include a “Watts to Freedom” feature that unleashes the full acceleration capability of the EV. The vehicle can be launched from a standstill to 96km/h in about three seconds.
An Infinity Roof with removable and transparent “Sky Panels” will allow a true open-air experience. These panels can be conveniently stowed in the “frunk” when not in use.
A large, 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment screen and 12.3-inch diagonal driver information center display also comes with the Edition 1 model.
