The all-new Genesis G80, the third-generation of the brand’s executive sedan, has been unveiled.
The car features the brand’s “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy. It allows variations in the styling of the Genesis G80 through a balance between its namesake’s opposing characteristics.
The front has what is described as a distinguished but modern look. It features the Genesis Crest Grill and double-lined headlamp signature design element. The double-line motif also extends into the tail lamps at the rear.
The car’s sides have a Parabolic Line that begins at headlamps and runs to the rear through the top of the door. It is said to be inspired by classic cars. Athletic “power lines” along the doors emphasise the fender volume and the 20-inch wheels.
The rear is given a full-width chrome decor at the top of the boot. Meanwhile, the dual exhaust finishers reference the Crest Grill design.
OPEN, INTUITIVE INTERIOR
The interior design of the Genesis G80 is inspired by traditional Korean architecture. Priority is placed on the careful balance of personal space with state-of-the-art technology.
Visibility is enhanced by minimising the thickness of the A-pillars and rear-view mirror frame. Flag-type wing mirrors and the lower dashboard height also help in this regard.
A head-up display, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment system display the necessary information while driving.
The control area has an integrated controller for air-conditioning, a rotary-operated electronic shift dial and a touch-and-write infotainment system.
Both headroom and legroom have been increased by lowering the seating height of the second row, allowing for both more interior room and a more dramatic roofline.
The Genesis G80 features leather-covered seating and steering wheel surfaces, soft-touch fabrics and coatings as well as open-pore wood trim finishes.
The Genesis G80’s platform delivers a lowered centre of gravity to secure a wider cabin and improved driving stability. The use of aluminium is used for about 19% of the body, reducing the weight by 110kg compared to the previous model, increasing fuel efficiency and performance.
ENGINE OPTIONS
The Genesis G80 is offered internationally with three powertrains.
Petrol-powered options include a turbocharged 2.5-litre inline-4 with 300bhp and 421Nm, and a turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 with 375bhp and 530Nm.
Diesel options include a 2.2-litre inline-4 with 198bhp and 441Nm of torque.
LUXURY-ORIENTED TECH
The new Genesis G80 also offers a high level of convenience to drivers with a suite of new technology. New technological features include a Remote Smart Parking Assistant, which allows parking remotely via the key fob.
The 12.3-inch 3D instrument cluster also recognises the driver’s eyes and provides various driving information. It can be converted to 2D if the driver prefers.
