Three cars were involved in a fire in a multi-storey carpark in Toa Payoh on Tuesday (Oct 3) morning, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
SCDF said it was alerted to an incident at the multi-storey carpark in Block 141A, Toa Payoh Lorong 2, at 6.45am.
Two fire engines, two fire bikes, a Red Rhino and a support vehicle were dispatched to the scene, at Deck 2A of the carpark.
The fire was extinguished using two compressed air foam backpacks and a hosereel, said the SCDF. No one was injured.
The SCDF said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Straits Times understands that a man was trying to jump-start his car when the fire occurred.
When The Straits Times arrived at around 9.30am, there was an acrid smell lingering in the air.
A tow truck was moving one of the three cars – a Subaru – out of the carpark, while the second car, a Citroen C4 Picasso, remained in the carpark. The third car, a Nissan, was no longer at the scene.
A resident, who declined to be named, said he was going to work at about 7am when he saw the cars in flames.
His car, which was parked near the burning vehicles, was unscathed but was stuck within a tape cordon.
When he spoke to The Straits Times at around 9.30am, he was waiting in the carpark to get to his car and was late for work. His son, whom he usually drives to school, had to take the bus.
Another resident, who lives on the third floor of Block 145 adjacent to the carpark, said he heard sirens at about 7am but did not smell or see anything unusual.
By 10am, cleaners were seen sweeping debris from the fire.
