ComfortDelGro, which operates the largest taxi fleet in Singapore, will fit 400 taxis with plastic shields as part of a trial. The aim of the shield is to minimise contact between drivers and passengers.
Called “V-shield”, these shields are manufactured locally and have been trademarked ComfortDelGro subsidiary Moove Media.
The V-shield encapsulates the driver, but has two “windows” that enable passengers to make payment. Because the plastic used to create the shield is “unbreakable”, ComfortDelGro says it also protects against the driver against physical harm.
About 50 taxis a week will have the V-shield installed in them.
Cabby Koh Tian Moo, 66, looks forward to having the V-shield installed in his taxi. He said: āIām grateful for the efforts the Company is taking to protect us. This will give passengers and cabbies like myself peace of mind.ā
