Chevron’s Caltex brand has reformulated its signature additive package with the addition of new Clean & Glide Technology. The new active ingredients are said to have been specifically formulated to clean and protect metal surfaces within the engine.
Helping reduce friction and thus wear and tear between key engine components, Clean & Glide Technology is said to deliver enhanced engine protection, improved fuel economy and maximised power with continued use over time, all key in helping provide a more reliable motoring experience.
The benefits of Caltex with Techron have long been known, and making changes to a proven formula was not undertaken lightly. Approximately 600,000 kilometres of fleet testing and rigorous tests helped create a better fuel. Caltex believes this to be its best petrol yet, helping motorists’ cars to perform at their best.
There are many moving parts in an engine and frictional forces are inevitable. Over time, this friction creates metal wear which reduces an engine’s optimum operating ability. While it’s the job of the lubricant to control friction within the engine, some hard-to-reach areas such as the upper cylinder can present a challenge. Clean & Glide Technology is said to address this challenge. Apparently, with continued use, it even replenishes friction modifiers in the lubricants that are consumed during the course of normal engine operation.
Through stringent laboratory testing against its predecessor in a controlled environment, Caltex’s so-called 5-Star fuel with Clean & Glide Technology was able to reduce metal wear and friction by an average of 38 percent and 41 percent respectively, using petrol from around Asia Pacific and South Africa. In a similar test simulating the build-up of Techron in the crankcase lubricant, Clean & Glide Technology also improved fuel efficiency by up to 3 percent.
“The addition of our new Clean & Glide Technology stays true to the evolving nature of our Techron fuel offering. Our products are continuously being improved in anticipation of future engine advancements and local market needs. For motorists, a quick Caltex stop now delivers petrol grades that help treat their respective cars right, providing additional benefits without compromise,” said Shahid Ahmed, Chevron’s general manager for products in Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia.
The new and improved formulation is available across all petrol grades in Caltex service stations. To gain the benefits of a more efficient engine more quickly, motorists may opt for the ultra-premium Caltex Platinum 98 with Techron, now with as much as 50 percent more active ingredients of Clean & Glide Technology to make it faster-acting.
