Official BMW agent Performance Motors has launched the BMW X3 xDrive30e, the plug-in petrol-electric hybrid variant of the X3.
BMW claims that the X3 xDrive30e has a combined average fuel consumption of 35.7km/L, or 2.8L/100km.
PLUG-IN HYBRID DRIVETRAIN
The BMW X3 xDrive30e’s low fuel consumption is possible because of the car’s plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It consists of a petrol engine and electric motor.
The former is a turbocharged 2-litre inline-4 that produces 184hp and 300Nm, while the latter puts out 109hp and 265Nm.
Their combined total output is 292hp and 420Nm. With xDrive (all-wheel-drive), the BMW X3 xDrive30e does 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds. Top speed is 210km/h.
Plug-in hybrids are more powerful than conventional hybrids. Their more powerful batteries can drive the vehicles for longer distances on electricity alone.
The X3 xDrive30e has a 12kWh lithium-ion battery. This gives it a pure electric range of between 51 and 55km.
The X3 xDrive30e can be plugged in to recharge the battery. Using the BMW i Wallbox, the process takes about 3.5 hours.
WEIGHT AND PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS
The X3 xDrive30e and its hybrid components are not light. The vehicle weighs 1990kg, or 275kg heftier than an X3 xDrive30i.
Said components also take up a fair amount of boot space. The X3 xDrive30e has 450 litres with the rear seats up and 1500 litres with them folded.
A regular X3, on the other hand, has 100 litres more in either configuration.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
The X3 xDrive30e is currently priced at $251,888.
