The current situation does not allow for large-scale events like the annual Singapore Motorshow. However, that has not stopped brands from launching new models, or in BMW’s case, hosting BMW World.
This year, BMW World is being held in the brand’s two showrooms: Performance Motors and Performance Munich Autos, the official agent for BMW’s M models. The event officially begins today and ends on 19 February.
The previous BMW World 2018 was held in the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Though smaller in scale, this year’s BMW World still has a lineup of 31 cars and two motorcycles, and offers visitors a chance to attend the event both in person and virtually via this link.
HOTLY ANTICIPATED MODELS
Making their Singapore debut at the event are the M3 Competition and M4 Competition. Both models are powered by the twin-turbocharged 3-litre inline-6 engine, which delivers 510hp and 650Nm.
Paired to an 8-speed automatic, both the M3 Competition and M4 Competition can zip from rest to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds.
The M3 Competition is currently priced at $446,888 while the M4 Competition retails for $451,888. Both figures are inclusive of COE and a $20k VES surcharge.
Aimed at premium hatchback buyers, on the other hand, is the VES-neutral BMW 116i.
This Category A model is equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-litre inline-3 that produces 109hp and 190Nm. It does the century sprint in 10.6 seconds. It is currently priced at $143,888 with COE.
For eco-conscious drivers, the updated BMW 530e is now available. This plug-in hybrid features a turbocharged 2-litre paired to an electric motor.
With a combined system output of 292hp and 420Nm, the 530e finishes the century sprint in 5.9 seconds. On a fully charged battery, BMW says it has a pure electric range between 54 and 61km. Its combined consumption figure is 52.6km/L (1.9L per 100km).
BMW WORLD: A SPECIAL SHOWCASE
On display at BMW World 2021 is the iX3 – the electric version of the X3 and the brand’s first electric SUV. It will be officially launched in the third quarter of this year.
Equipped with the most powerful version of the brand’s eDrive powertrain, the iX3 offers 282hp and 400Nm.
This SUV offers a WLTP range of up to 459km. Charging times are 7.5 hours with an 11kW charger, and 34 minutes (zero to 80%) with a direct current fast charger. The iX3 is compatible with 150kW fast charger.
