Series production of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has started at BMW’s Plant Leipzig.
More than 400,000 units of the first generation compact MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) found homes across the globe. Of these, more than 368,000 were built in Leipzig.
This second generation 2 Series Active Tourer, however, will solely be manufactured in Leipzig.
BMW Plant Leipzig was previously entrusted with the manufacture of the BMW Group’s first electrified models – the BMW i3 and BMW i8.
Now this new generation 2 Series Active Tourer is bringing new electrified technology into its segment, with new plug-in hybrid drivetrains available for the compact MPV.
BMW says that only “minor adjustments” were made to the plant to accommodate the manufacture of the car.
The 2 Series Active Tourer will roll off Leipzig’s production lines alongside the 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe.
