Bentley has introduced its fastest and most potent Continental GT to date – the Continental GT Speed.
With 650hp and 900Nm under its bonnet, along with a slew of chassis and suspension upgrades, the Continental GT Speed can go from rest to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds. It has a top speed of 335km/h.
BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT SPEED: EXTERIOR DESIGN
The Continental GT Speed is recognised by its radiator grille and bumper grille, both of which are finished in Dark Tint. There are discreet “Speed” badges on the front fenders, and the sports sills are more sculpted.
Also standard are the 22-inch “Speed” wheels finished in bright silver. Drivers can specify these in a dark tint or black gloss finish. Illuminated Bentley treadplates mark the door sills.
RACY ACCENTS
The Bentley Continental GT Speed’s cabin is upholstered in both Alcantara and leather in a duotone colour split. The same format is applied to the steering wheel as well.
A total of 15 main and 11 secondary colours can be used in specifying the interior. The centre console can be finished in dark tint engine turned aluminium.
Piano Black veneer is standard, but other options include Dark Stained Burr Walnut, Dark Fiddleback Eucalyptus and Crown Cut Walnut. There are three open-pore options as well.
CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION
The Bentley Continental GT Speed’s Chassis has been given a host of upgrades. These include the new electronic all-wheel-steering and for the first time in a Bentley, an electronic rear differential (eLSD).
The latter is specifically tuned hand-in-hand with the traction control and active chassis systems to help improve grip, stability and adjustability.
Bentley’s three-chamber active air suspension with adaptive damping, and Bentley Dynamic Ride are also equipped as standard. The latter is a 48-volt active anti-roll control system with electric motors on each anti-roll bar.
In the firmest setting, each motor can deliver 1300Nm in 0.3 of a second to counteract cornering forces and help the body remain level. Stopping power comes from the newly engineered carbon ceramic brakes, which save 33kg of unsprung mass.
PERFORMANCE
Powering the Continental GT Speed is a twin-turbocharged 6-litre W12 that pumps out 650hp (24hp more than before) and 900Nm. The engine sends these figures to the wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Zero to 100km/h is completed in 3.6 seconds (0.1 of a second quicker than previously), and the car has a top speed of 335km/h.
To help reduce fuel consumption, the Variable Displacement System shuts down six of the 12 cylinders under certain driving conditions.
