The Audi RS4 Avant has been named “Best Performance Wagon” by a panel of 11 judges at the 2018 ST-Torque Awards.
With 450bhp and 600Nm from its twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6, the RS4 Avant can crush the century dash in 4.1 seconds.
The previous estate was powered by a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8.
It also had 450bhp, but only 430Nm of torque. Zero to 100km/h was accomplished in 4.7 seconds.
Options for the RS4 Avant include milled wheels and a sports exhaust.
One of the judges on the panel, Dr Kong Yongyao, said: “Who doesn’t like a fast estate? The closest thing we have this year to being all things to all people.”
“Ballistic, left-field cool, technology-laden and luxurious in that familiar Audi way.”
“Going to Ikea has never been this satisfying.”
Another judge, Tony Tan, quipped: “The engine delivers neck-snapping acceleration and there is a huge amount of grip from the quattro all-wheel-drive system.”
“The steering feels much more communicative compared to its predecessor, thus improving the overall driving experience by leaps and bounds. It’s also one of the best-looking estates around.”
Engineer Shreejit Changaroth added: “Anyone who does not like this car is either from a rival manufacturer or from another planet.”
“I absolutely love its uncanny alacrity at speed in the dry or wet that gives any driver an extreme sense of confidence.”
“Not many station wagons can even come close.”
