At the heart of this second-generation Ingolstadt hot hatch is an updated version of the previous model’s melodic 2.5-litre 20-valves 5-cylinder. Its turbocharged output has been boosted accordingly – from 340bhp to 367bhp, and from 450Nm to 465Nm. Coupled with a quickened 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and a 55kg reduction in kerb weight, the new RS3 storms from a standstill to 100km/h in a scorching 4.3 seconds (which would keep pace with the 4.2-litre V8 R8) and blasts to a maximum speed of 280km/h. An RS exhaust system upgrade with even heavier bass can be specified to make the acceleration even stormier.
Controlling the “storm” is a torque-vectoring quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system, which can send between 50 and 100 percent of the torque to the rear axle. Audi’s “magnetic ride” adaptive damping is optional, along with carbon-ceramic front brake discs (for the first time in the hot hatch segment). Inside the five-door cabin, the RS3 has the full infotainment suite from the A3, plus RS-specific details. A major option is a pair of carbon-shell bucket seats, which provide superior support and greater street cred.
The new RS3 Sportback is expected to blast into Singapore at the end of 2015.
