Komoco Motors has announced that sales of the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid will begin in late September 2021.
The all-new seven-seater SUV promises greater roominess for passengers, along with a raft of safety and driver assistance features from the brand’s SmartSense suite.
Hyundai says that the petrol-electric powertrain gives the 227hp Santa Fe a combined fuel consumption of 18.2km/L.
As the model is currently undergoing homologation, prices will be announced in due course.
HYUNDAI SANTA FE HYBRID: NEW STYLING
The Santa Fe looks bolder than ever, with a huge grille featuring an accentuated 3D pattern flanked by T-shaped daytime running lights.
Scalloped door panels and character lines running the length of the SUV emphasise the upright cabin profile.
At the rear, the tail-lights are connected by a red reflector band and feature horizontally stretched graphics to visually reinforce the body’s width.
The Santa Fe first global SUV built on Hyundai’s third-generation vehicle platform. Hyundai says that it “allows for significant improvements in performance, handling, fuel efficiency and safety”.
Heavy equipment within the platform has been lowered to lower the centre of gravity. To enhance handling, the fixed points for the steering arms are placed closer to the centre of the wheels.
A multi-load path structure, hot stamping and the integration of a super high-tensile steel plate help the Santa Fe better absorb impacts from collisions.
CABIN AND TECH
The new Santa Fe Hybrid promises more space and refinement for all occupants. Hyundai says that more premium materials, such as Nappa leather, are now used in the cabin’s construction.
Legroom has increased by 9mm and 40mm respectively in the second- and third-rows. Ambient lighting is also available, and boot capacity has also been expanded.
New technology includes a head-up display with a luminance of over 10,000 candela per square metre to help ensure good visibility of pertinent driving information.
An 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system is standard, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Apart from Bluetooth connectivity, the Santa Fe Hybrid also comes with auxiliary and USB ports for convenience.
For safety, the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is equipped with SmartSense. Its functions include Blind-spot Collision Warning, Safe Exit Assist, Rear Occupant Alert and Rear Cross-traffic Collision Assist.
Powering the Santa Fe Hybrid is a turbocharged 1.6-litre inline-4 that’s paired to an electric motor. Total system output is 227hp (230PS, 169kW) and 265Nm.
The hybrid drivetrain is mated to a new 6-speed automatic gearbox and propels the SUV from a standstill to 100km/h in 8.9 seconds. Hyundai claims a combined fuel consumption of 18.2km/L.
