The Tokyo Motor Show is a mecca for car lovers. The event, which takes place every two years, is renowned for the cars and technologies on display.

And unlike the Singapore Motor Show, the cars on display here are not for sale. It is an exhibition. Car manufacturers use this event to proudly showcase their latest models and advanced tech.
But there’s other stuff, too. Here are five other things you check out at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show!
1) A SELECTION OF MODIFIED CARS FROM TOKYO AUTO SALON
If modded cars are your thing, there are mean machines from the Tokyo Auto Salon on display.
The Tokyo Auto Salon takes place annually, during the first two weekends in January. It is wilder and more colourful than the Tokyo Motor Show.
But if you can’t wait till January 2020, the cars on display here can at least whet your appetite.
2) ICONIC SUPERCARS AT THE TOKYO MOTOR SHOW
Okay, this lineup does have some new vehicles. But which enthusiast in his or her right mind can resist classic supercars?
Apart from the Ferrari F40 and Dino 246 GT, there’s also the McLaren Senna and Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
We wish they would schedule times when the cars would be started and revved!
3) SHOP FOR OFFICIAL MERCHANDISE
There are several official stores dotted around the Show. They’re usually located by the sides or rear of the exhibition halls.
Inside, there are t-shirts, model cars, smartphone cases and keychains. There are many items made in collaboration with carmakers. Items like these are great as gifts or souvenirs.
4) TOMICA TIME!
There’s a wide variety of Tomica models that are available for purchase. But the special edition models are the ones to buy.
Said models have the unique “Tokyo Motor Show 2019” markings that distinguish them from the regular cars.
There are also Tomica Town and Tomica World sets, which kids will love.
5) OLD BROCHURES AND MAGAZINES
Old car brochures and magazines may not be big in Singapore, but they are in Japan. That’s why there are shops like these during car shows.
Perhaps you want to learn more about that car your grandparents always talk about. Or are interested in particular models.
You can find booths like these outside the exhibition halls.
6) FEAST AT THE GOURMET KINGDOM
Exploring the entirety of this show is going to make you hungry. By the time you’re through, you’d have walked at least 20,000 steps.
Fortunately, you can “refuel” at Gourmet Kingdom. Located in the West Hall/Rooftop Exhibition Area, Gourmet Kingdom features dishes from famous restaurants.
Each of these restaurants was specially chosen by members of Tabearu King. Tabearu King is claimed to be a “professional gourmet unit for the social media generation”.
As long as the food’s good, it doesn’t matter who recommended it!
7) GLIMPSE THE FUTURE
The Tokyo Motor Show isn’t just about current technologies and automotive trends. It also gives visitors a glimpse of the future.
Head to Future Expo, which is taking place at Mega Web. Here, you’ll discover things such as future mobility concepts and learn about hydrogen energy.
You can even talk to virtual characters voiced by Japanese comedians!
