Something has to be said about driving in gorgeous countries. Unfortunately, it’s something most of us will never get to experience, given we’re cooped up in Singapore’s urban confines. The most scenery we get over here is a pretty girl driving a convertible with the top down (the car’s, not hers; more’s the pity).
Anyway, back to my original point. Driving in a place with fantastic scenery is inspiring – it makes you want to drive further than you ever have before and more importantly, just sit back and enjoy driving. Again, the latter is something most of us never get to do here, given Singapore’s small size and how we always seem to drive for a purpose (to work, to pick up the kids, get groceries, etc.)
Most of us have lost the ability to go for a drive just for the sake of it. And that really is a shame, because loving cars is just one part of being a petrolhead – the other part is about loving driving.
If you ever feel the need to go for a drive to nowhere, may I humbly suggest Iceland in the winter. Yes, you’ll have to deal with the odd snowstorm or two and possibly icy roads, but I assure you, it’s worth it. In a nutshell, the place looks like Lord of the Rings: Winter Edition.
I’ll just leave some photos here, then. Unfortunately, they weren’t taken by me, full credit goes to the incredibly talented Land Rover photographers, though I’m fairly certain the jaw-dropping landscape helped, too.
