1. LOTS OF WHEELS AND MOTORS
Obviously, any motor show worth a ticket/visit must have an impressive spread of motorcars (and complementary alloy wheels), not only in terms of quantity but also variety and desirability. There should be at least one or two models that are new to the market, plus a few fancy prototypes that money cannot buy. The organisers shouldn’t just “transfer” the dealerships to the exhibition hall or put up an elaborate roadshow – they should create a showy special event with lots of vroom.
2. EYE CANDY GALORE
Every motor show stand needs smiley two-legged models to accompany all those shiny four-wheeled models. It’s part of the international motor show circus, and sure beats having clowns around.
3. MECHANICAL CONFECTIONARY APLENTY
After the visitors have overdosed on eye candy, their visit should be kept sweet by automotive-related entertainment such as realistic motorsport simulators, action-packed radio-controlled car racing and precarious stunt-driving performances.
4. COLLECTIBLE FREEBIES
Besides handing out brochures and price lists, participating car companies should also give nice little items during the show. Popular things would include designer thumbdrives, funky keychains, cute pens and useful pouches – all with a vehicular theme, of course. Event-specific toy cars/bikes will be well-received, too. Even the car catalogues should be slicker/thicker than usual, so as to ensure they’ll be parked in someone’s home library for reference/inspiration.
5. CONTESTS AND COMPETITIONS
One of the best ways to draw the crowds is, well, a lucky draw. For a motor show, the grand prize has to be a brand new car, the bigger the better. Motorcycles, scooters and high-end bicycles are attractive prizes, too. There should also be opportunities for showgoers to depend on a bit of skill, rather than pure luck, to win big at the motor show – car photography contests, indoor karting races, parallel-parking challenges and tyre-changing tournaments would do the trick.
