Motorists on the move who smoke behind the wheel should be closely watched. In the past, when people in Singapore were more civic-minded, those who smoked used their vehicle ashtrays. Today, most of them simply flick their butts out the window. Don’t believe me? Watch a smoker on the road the next time.
This is more than a dirty habit. A lit cigarette butt can pose a danger to motorcyclists, drivers in convertibles, cyclists and pedestrians. Burnt skin and charred upholstery aside, they can cause a momentary lapse in attention, and a serious accident.
Our Traffic Police should catch a few of these filthy, inconsiderate smokers and make an example of them.
