Finding a car that offers space, pace and practicality isn’t easy. Most vehicles have one or two traits, but not all three.
But the Skoda Octavia RS 245 not only possesses these characteristics. It is also relatively reasonably priced. Indeed, it had the highest score among the 10 contenders when it came to value for money.
It is because of all these that it has been named “Best Performance Fastback” at the 2019 ST–Torque Awards.
The ST–Torque panel of 12 judges agreed that the Skoda Octavia RS 245 deserved this prize.
Lawyer Edric Pan said: “This must be the performance bargain of the year. That 241bhp and a century sprint time of 6.4 seconds are attainable for around $130k is already remarkable, but add to that the Octavia’s sharp-suited, spacious body, huge boot and comprehensive equipment, and it looks an absolute steal.”
“It is a refined and long-legged cruiser, but also agile and entertaining when the road starts to meander. Add all this up and you have a genuinely desirable sports sedan to rival far more expensive German contenders.”
Torque editor Jeremy Chua added: “The Octavia RS 245 is a lot of car for the money. It is roomy, useful and quick. That’s why everyone agrees that it ‘Czechs’ the right boxes.”
Toh Yong Chuan, a journalist with The Straits Times, said: “This is the working man’s performance car. It is priced less than the cheapest Mercedes-Benz and BMW, and outperforms cars that cost more.”
“Some might sniff at the brand, but the Czech carmaker’s “Simply Clever” corporate tagline is an apt response to brand-conscious car buyers. The clever ones are those who can see beyond the brand and appreciate the value, quality and performance of Skoda cars, including the RS 245.”
