Even if you don’t care about cars, you will have something to say about this one. To say it stands out is like saying Pamela Anderson has issues with commitment – a gross understatement.
And speaking of Miss Anderson (or is that Mrs now?), she will be reduced to a sideshow if she ever showed up anywhere near this shocking-green BMW 645Ci.
Some will exclaim: “Oh, my gawd, what have they done to the car?” Others will just look bemused. Still more will nod vigorously when asked: “So, do you think you’d like to own it?”
Whatever the reaction, suffice to say, this is one “extroverted” coupe that makes everyone sit up and take notice each and every time it drives into view.
Let’s start with the colour. It’s called “Lamborghini Gallardo Premium Edition Pearl Green”. I prefer to call it “can-be-seen-from-a-mile-away-green”. And I am not exaggerating.
It sure was easy to spot the car on the day of our date with the vehicle. The fact that it sounded like a touring racecar also helped it to be noticed.
This 645Ci is equipped with a Supersprint exhaust system which, when the revs climb, emits a super-low, throaty note that ascends in volume exponentially, until it bellows in a way that only a V8 can. (It’s hard to believe that it’s an LTA-approved exhaust!)
In stock form, the 645Ci comes with a 4.4-litre V8 that makes 333bhp and 450Nm of torque. The century sprint is dispensed in just 5.6 seconds. Hardly a shoddy performer, all that was done to the engine in this car (besides the exhaust) was a full carbon fibre GruppeM air intake, which increases the volume of inducted air by up to 30 percent.
It was great fun pottering around at low revs, and then jabbing the throttle to revel in the heady concoction of induction and exhaust noise.
But this is only a small portion of the fun. The other huge chunk is letting your eyes (and brain) take in the “clothes” that the car is dressed in.
From Lumma Design, a German bodykit specialist, the CLR600S M6 aero kit comprises of bumpers with enlarged scoops, customised exhaust outlets and rear diffuser, side skirts with integrated brake cooling ducts and a subtle boot-lid spoiler which has been lightly sprayed with pearlescent black for added contrast against the green.
However, the most garang exterior add-on has to be the Vorsteiner VRS carbon bonnet, complete with two egg-shaped vents. The slat-ridden vents allow the portions of the engine to peek out.
No bodykit or in-your-face paint job will cut the mustard if the wheels are not up to par. So the 645Ci’s owner, Geoveen, went for something truly big and bright for maximum effect.
The 20-inch Riverside EXE wheels feature a three-piece, deep-dished design. And they were brought to Ah Long – a popular name with owners of exotic cars that need a quality paint job – for a green-black layering to complement the rest of the car.
Shod with Pirelli PZero Rosso 20-inch tyres, the wheel/tyre combo really looks the part. And together with the Bilstein PSS9 coilovers, which lower the ride height, they complete the visual makeover while also improving handling.
If looks could kill, Geoveen’s 645Ci would be the equivalent of a nuclear warhead – it packs a wallop and leaves a long-lasting impression. As a style statement, it can either make you want to “go green” or just go away.
