The Mercedes-Benz GLB is a hotly anticipated compact SUV. Its boxy shape has been described by some as reminiscent of the G-Class, the brand’s tough off-roader.
But what exactly is a GLB? Here are five things you should know about this car.
1) THE GLB IS MERCEDES’ SMALLEST SEVEN-SEATER SUV.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB sits between the GLA and GLC models, both of which are five-seaters. Basically, the GLA is an entry-level SUV, while the GLC is marketed as more refined and upmarket.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB is aimed at customers who want a flexible seven-seater SUV.
2) THE GLB’S WHEELBASE IS THE LONGEST AMONG MERCEDES’ COMPACT MODELS.
At 2829mm, the Mercedes-Benz GLB’s wheelbase is 100mm (10cm) longer than the B-Class hatchback’s.
Thanks to this, passengers up to 1.68m tall can supposedly be comfortably accommodated in the rearmost pair of seats. The second-row seats can be moved fore and aft by 140mm.
3) BOOT CAPACITY OF UP TO 1680 LITRES (SEVEN-SEATER VERSION).
The Mercedes-Benz GLB is claimed to be big on practicality.
The seven-seater variant that will come to Singapore has a minimum boot capacity of 150 litres with all seats in place. Folding down the third row seats gives you 700 litres.
When all rear seats are folded, total capacity expands to 1680 litres.
4) THE GLB ALSO HAS USB-C PORTS.
USB ports are good, but USB-C ports are great. If you use an Android smartphone, you know that USB-C ports enable you to quick-charge your device.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB has USB-C ports for both front and rear passengers. There’s also a wireless charging tray in the compartment between the front seats.
5) SINGAPORE WILL GET THE GLB200 AND AMG GLB35 4MATIC MODELS.
Singapore will only be receiving the front-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz GLB200 and hotter Mercedes-AMG GLB35 4Matic (all-wheel-drive) models.
