If you’re single (available, attached, or detached from relationship realities), what would the ideal car be?
Something small, because a singleton doesn’t need the size or the space.
Something with an equally small price tag, because he/she cannot split the bills easily with his/her other half, if there’s even one at all.
Something stylish to match the fashion sense of a swinging single.
Something interesting and occasionally invigorating, because a singleton needs to find his/her own entertainment every now and then.
Something like the Mazda 2, which was the 2015 ST-Torque Awards winner for Best Supermini.
One of the nicest numbers from Japan, the 2 is a good all-rounder in terms of driveability, efficiency, quality, equipment and cost-effectiveness.
The 1.5-litre 115bhp 6-speed automatic five-door hatchback takes 10 seconds to reach 100km/h from a standstill, so it isn’t fast. But the merry little Mazda is nippy in the city and feels like a surprisingly mature kid in terms of ride, handling, steering and braking.
And the car comes in colours that would satisfy both sexes – including Snowflake White and Smoky Rose for ladies, Soul Red and Titanium Flash for energetic young men, and three different shades of blue for the melancholic metrosexual.
