Driving and flying couldn’t be more different than night and day. The former means wheels on the ground, while the latter means wings in the air.
Despite this, no driving enthusiast has ever failed to use flying analogies to refer to their driving exploits. Who hasn’t referenced the line “I feel the need… the need for speed” from Top Gun?
Heck, there’s an entire series of driving games – and a movie – called Need for Speed!
INDULGE YOUR FANTASY
If you admire naval aviators and pilots in general, then the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “SFTI” will probably tickle your fancy.
This timepiece is inspired by the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor”, which was created in 2018. It is exclusively available for graduates of the US Navy Fighter Weapons School.
Limited to 1500 pieces worldwide, the Pilot’s Watch TOP GUN Edition “SFTI” features a 44mm case constructed from black zirconium oxide ceramic.
Its Vickers rating is second to that of diamonds, making it one of the hardest substances on earth. The case is also scratch-resistant, and the black hue is anti-reflective.
CERATANIUM®
The Pilot’s Watch TOP GUN Edition “SFTI” also has its case back and chronograph pushers finished in Ceratanium®, a special titanium alloy.
This new innovation from IWC is supposedly as light and as durable as titanium, while also being as hard and scratch-resistant as ceramic. The dial is protected by convex sapphire, with an anti-reflective coating on both sides.
MOVEMENT
The IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “SFTI” is powered by the manufacturer’s 69380 calibre.
This automatic movement has 33 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vph and a power reserve of around 46 hours. The timepiece is also water resistant to 6 bar.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “SFTI” is currently priced at $14,100 at IWC boutiques.
