I am no environmentalist, but neither am I an environmental wastrel. I believe many people share the same “middle ground” approach when it comes to green issues.
Sure, we recycle our bottles, use both sides of the paper, and switch off the lights when they’re not in use. But will we go as far to restrict our choice of car to only fuel-efficient models? Conversely, are we prepared to forego the car of our choice because it is less fuel-efficient than the second-best choice? I think not.To a certain extent, we may consider a more fuel-efficient alternative model in order to save on petrol bills. People whose car choices are driven solely by environmental concerns deserve an award.
That doesn’t mean I condone indiscriminate deforestation or advocate the plundering of our earth’s mineral resources. But buy an eco-car just because it’s eco-friendly? No way.
