If you take pride in your car’s appearance, you can consider yourself somewhat of a detailing enthusiast.
Naturally, some owners are keener than others when it comes to car detailing. They’re the ones who wash and detail their own rides instead of going to petrol kiosk car washes.
That said, we’ve been getting a lot of rain recently. I’ve heard colleagues say they’d rather not do any car detailing because “the efforts will be wasted”.
But here are five reasons you should continue detailing your car today, even if you know it’s going to get dirty tomorrow.
PREVENT DIRT FROM PILING UP
Car detailing must not stop even if it rains every day. In fact, if you can, you should wash your car more often.
Dirt and grime from roads and road spray will really begin to pile up if you’re not fastidious.
Besides, needing to remove a thicker layer of filth means there’s more risk of marring your paint when you do finally wash your car.
TOP-UP YOUR PROTECTION
You apply wax during the car detailing process to protect your paintwork. However, no matter how good the wax is, it’ll eventually break down.
By performing more car detailing, you have a chance to top-up this layer of wax. Even using a spray wax between regular waxing (with a paste or liquid wax) is good.
Adding to your layer of wax helps ensure water beading/run-off, which prevents those dreaded water spots. At the very least, it’ll make them easier to clean.
If you want the strongest protection for your car, you should consider getting a ceramic coating.
KEEPING YOUR WHEELS AND TYRES SHINY
Cleaning your wheels and tyres is an integral part of car detailing. After all, dirty wheels and brown tyres are like filthy shoes worn with a sharp suit.
By using a good wheel cleaner and wheel brush, you can prevent dirt and brake dust from piling up. And when brake dust accumulates, it becomes even tougher to remove.
Remember that between thunderstorms, the sun does come out to “bake” all these nasty contaminants onto your car!
FLOOR MATS GET DIRTY, TOO
Even if you have heavy-duty rubber floor mats, these are going to get very dirty very fast.
Part of good car detailing is pulling these out and vacuuming or washing them.
If you have regular floor mats, your car detailing process should include applying a carpet cleaner. If you want to be more thorough, get a car groomer to steam clean your interior.
Remember, wet footwear means a wet or even muddy car interior!
BETTER VISIBILITY
Doing more car detailing during the rainy season means you can also keep your windscreens, windows and mirrors clear.
Even hydrophobic coatings like Rain-X have their limits. They can’t repel 100% of the moisture on your glass. Dirt will eventually build up.
Don’t wait till visibility is compromised. Use a dedicated automotive glass cleaner regularly. Then, follow-up with the coating of your choice.
Remember, more rain doesn’t just mean more work. For grooming enthusiasts, it’s also more time to spend with your car!
