When it comes to luxury, a car is much more than just a piece of mechanised equipment on wheels used for transport. Luxury cars are symbols of success that reflect the owner’s societal status, affluence and lifestyle. They are VIP tickets to the high life, its trappings of luxury superior to the mass-market variety in design, quality and technology. This is the reason why people pay $500,000 for a car when they can get one for $50,000. This also explains the dealerships’ investment in solid aftersales and top-notch customer care.
In the premier motoring league, a good product is not enough. It is as much about the flagship model, as it is about the privileged executives who own them and therefore fly the flag.
BMW agent Performance Motors was the first to formulate a special set of concessions to make its upper-crust customers feel special. The 7 Series Privileges Programme Plus, or 7PP Plus, is a revised version of the original conceived in 2002. This groundbreaking rewards scheme for 7 Series owners is now one of the most comprehensive in the business and also the best organised, with dedicated staff running it with Germanic efficiency.
Membership in BMW 7PP Plus is valid for the first three years of ownership. It is not transferable, so if the original owner sells his new 7 limo within that timeframe, the attached privileges cannot be passed on. As its name suggests, 7PP Plus is meant for 7 Series clients only, so even if you purchase a $333,000 M3 saloon or a $338,000 650i, you are not eligible to join the club. But the $298,000 730Li qualifies for membership.
Another unique feature is BMW Advance. This allows the 7PP Plus member to borrow an X5, X6, 630i Coupe, 325i convertible or a 120i convertible (ang mohs would love these topless Bimmers) for special occasions or just for fun. He is entitled to two free 48-hour slots per year, which can be given to his spouse if he so wishes.

His own ride enjoys a complimentary car spa every year, and his skill behind the wheel is sharpened by the advanced driver training session that is on the house in the first year. When he doesn’t feel like driving his limousine, he can activate the complimentary chauffeur service, which is available for two normal days or one public holiday in the membership year.
Then there is the nautical element of 7PP Plus, in the form of a catamaran yacht complete with captain and crew. The vessel, christened Peak Performance, is well-equipped with fishing and snorkelling gear, well-stocked with food and beverage, and on standby to take its passengers on a pleasant morning or evening cruise. Members can book the boat once a year.
The fanciest part of 7PP Plus is the private jet. This tie-up with regional charter flight specialist BJets employs a eight-seater Hawker 850XP, with a flight attendant taking care of its passengers throughout the journey. Depending on the destination, the usual rental rate is around $14,000 per hour of flight time, but 7PP Plus“frequent flyers” enjoy specially discounted rates.
Last but not least, there is a concierge on call to help members make the most of their membership. This professional not only manages the logistics of the programme proper, he can also reserve a table at a fancy restaurant, engage a private chef or personal shopper, reserve theatre tickets, or even schedule a makeover.
With 7PP Plus as a standard accessory, new BMW 7 Series buyers must be in seventh heaven. Oh, and the car itself isn’t too bad either!
