Lamborghini Singapore and its official agent EuroSports Auto, have debuted the Huracán STO in Singapore.
The Huracán STO is derived from the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo and GT3 EVO racecars.
With numerous racecar-derived components and carbon fibre covering over 75% of the body panels, this V10-powered rear-wheel-drive supercar is the raciest one in the Huracán range today.
MOTORSPORT AERODYNAMICS
Light weight, aerodynamics and downforce were the key priorities in forming the Lamborghini Huracán STO’s body.
The supercar’s bonnet, front fenders and bumper are one single piece. Lamborghini calls this “cofango”. The word is a combination of “cofano”, which means bonnet or hood, and “parafango”, which means fender.
Cofango is also seen in the iconic Miura model. In motorsports, such a setup is crucial at it facilitates pit stops and repairs.
Apart from the new air ducts on the front bonnet, the Lamborghini Huracán STO also has a distinctive air scoop on the roof and a “shark fin” running down the rear windscreen.
This fin helps straighten the airflow towards the rear wing, which in turn increases the wing’s efficiency.
The manually adjustable single-slot rear wing features a double airfoil. The front part of this airfoil can be adjusted into three positions to increase rear downforce.
Lamborghini says the aero balance of the Huracán STO can vary by 13% to adapt the car to various driving styles and conditions.
Overall, the Lamborghini Huracán STO’s airflow efficiency and downforce are better than the Huracán Performante by 37% and 53% respectively.
LAMBORGHINI HURACÁN STO: REDUCING WEIGHT
The Huracán STO weighs in at 1339kg, or 43kg lighter than the Huracán Performante.
Weight savings were realised through the extensive use of carbon fibre, which covers over 75% of the body’s exterior panels. The windscreen is also 20% lighter than the one in the Huracán Performante. Additional weight was saved with the use of magnesium wheels.
Brembo CCM-R brakes can be found behind said wheels. CCM-R discs have four times higher thermal conductivity than carbon-ceramic ones. Their maximum braking power and longitudinal deceleration are improved by 25% and 7% respectively.
Inside, the seats and the floor mats are both made from carbon fibre as well. The titanium rear arch, which was developed with Akrapovič, is 40% lighter than ones made from stainless steel.
NEW DRIVING MODES
The Lamborghini Huracán STO features three new ANIMA driving modes: STO, Trofeo and Pioggia.
STO, the default mode, is meant for regular and “fun” driving – the car will allow more slip before reigning in the driver. Trofeo, on the other hand, is designed to produce the quickest lap times.
Pioggia (rain) optimises the traction control, rear-wheel-steering, torque vectoring and ABS systems to help the car deal with wet conditions.
