Hot on the tail of the BMW M5 is the new Mercedes-AMG E63. The new models sport a more striking design, improved aerodynamics and comfort.
UPDATED DESIGN
The Mercedes-AMG E63’s front splitter is now matches the colour of the vehicle. “S” models have splitters finished in Silver Shadow, while the ones under the AMG Night package comes in high-gloss black.
There’s also a new aerodynamic flap across the front apron.
At the rear, the tail-lights have been redesigned and are now flatter and extend into the boot lid. They are visually linked with a trim strip in high-gloss chrome on the top.
On the Mercedes-AMG E63 Estate, this strip extends even further up to the end of the outer rear lamps.
A redesigned rear apron yields aerodynamic improvements while housing reshaped twin-tailpipe trim elements.
AERODYNAMICALLY OPTIMISED WHEELS
New 19-inch 10-spoke light-alloy wheels that have been aerodynamically optimised are offered on the new Mercedes-AMG E63.
“S” models get new 20-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, aerodynamically optimised and with a wider aero rim edge painted in a choice of matt black or high-gloss Tantalum Grey.
Graphite Grey metallic, high-tech Silver metallic and also brilliant Blue Magno are new paint finishes available for selection.
MERCEDES-AMG E63 “HAMMER”
The AMG bi-turbo 4-litre V8 in the E63 S 4MATIC+ puts out 603bhp (450kW) and 850Nm of torque.
The E63 4MATIC+, on the other hand, grants you 563bhp (420kW) and 750Nm of torque. Cylinder deactivation switches off four cylinders when the “Comfort” drive mode is selected.
Mercedes-AMG says the E63 Saloon goes from rest to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds, while its even more powerful E63 S sibling does it in 3.4 seconds.
The figures for the E63 and E63 S Estate variants are 3.6 seconds and 3.5 seconds respectively.
“S” models will also get dynamic engine mounts which enhance the vehicle’s precision when driven dynamically, while increasing comfort on the soft setting.
Power is put to the road via a multi-clutch 9-speed transmission. All E63 variants are equipped with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ (all-wheel-drive) as standard.
A “Drift Mode” in the E63 S models sends all the torque to the rear axle, thereby recreating the driving characteristics of a rear-wheel-drive vehicle.
IMPROVED DYNAMICS AND COMFORT
The Mercedes-AMG E63 utilises a four-link front axle made from forged aluminium components. Independent wheel control and wheel suspension elements enable high lateral acceleration with minimal torque steer.
The rear axle is also autonomous and has been specially adjusted. The suspension thus ensures hallmark Mercedes E-Class comfort, combined with the high levels of precision and driving dynamics of AMG.
A FINE INTERIOR
The interior of the Mercedes-AMG E63 combines trademark ambience and high-quality materials with characteristic AMG performance.
The AMG seats are upholstered in nappa leather, and combine secure lateral support with high comfort for long journeys. They also sport AMG-specific seat upholstery layout with an “AMG” badge on the front seat backrests.
AMG Performance seats with integrated head restraints and even better lateral support can also be ordered on request. E63 S models will get nappa leather trim on the dashboard and belt lines, as well as seat belts in crystal grey.
Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system is housed within two 10.25-inch displays, while the “S” model gets 12.25-inch screens as standard.
A new AMG Performance steering wheel is covered in leather, DINAMICA microfibre or a combination of leather and DINAMICA.
The steering wheels also feature the “hands on” touch-sensitive sensor mat for easier use of the autonomous driving systems.
