Car detailing accessories are part and parcel of car ownership.
Whether it’s just a sponge and a bucket, or a shelf filled with products and accessories, every car owner has a car cleaning kit.
Now, if you’ve just begun your journey into the world of detailing, here are five car detailing accessories you should have.
1) A proper wash mitt
No car owner should be without a good wash mitt, like the one above from Auto Finesse.
Other good brands to check out include Meguair’s, Autoglym and Dodo Juice.
A good wash mitt will be gentle on your car as you move those suds around and lift dirt from your car. Coupled with a decent shampoo and good washing technique, you won’t leave swirl marks on the paint.
2) Wheel brushes
You can’t clean the inside of your wheels without wheel brushes like these. Sometimes, they are also called “barrel brushes”.
After you’ve sprayed wheel cleaner and allowed it to foam, grab a wheel brush and start agitating your wheels. When you’re done rinsing, you’ll appreciate how shiny they are, both inside and out!
No car detailing accessory kit is complete without this!
3) A grit guard for your bucket/s
Fussy car owners not only use a two-bucket method to wash their cars. They use grit guards in their bucket/s, too.
A grit guard sits at the bottom of your bucket and helps keep dirt down there by stopping it from floating upwards. You don’t want a mitt full of grime each time you dip it into your car shampoo bucket.
Grit guards are essential to preventing swirl marks.
4) A quick wax
Despite our devotion to our cars, petrolheads are a busy lot. We don’t always have time to give our cars the full TLC treatment.
The solution is to have a quick wax in your kit. Quick waxes, which are found in shops selling car detailing accessories, are formulated to be sprayed on and wiped off.
In contrast, traditional waxes need to be applied and allowed some time to cure.
This product from Autoglym saves you an additional step. It can be applied to a wet car! So, after rinsing your car, you spray it on and dry your vehicle as normal. At the same time, you give it a quick coat of wax.
Handy for topping up what you already have!
5) An all-in-one product
One of the most useful products in the world of car detailing accessories is a do-it-all like Auto Finesse’s Tripple. It is a polish, glaze and wax – all in one bottle.
After washing your car and prepping the surface, you apply this like you would a wax. It polishes your paintwork and applies a glaze to fill in any fine scratches, while also giving a layer of protection.
You may want to put another thin layer of sealant or wax on top for added protection. But if you’re pressed for time, this should come in quite handy.
