If you need rapid pace with lots of space, the new Mercedes-AMG GT63 S might be the car for you.
The latest member of the AMG family, specifically its high-performance GT line, it had its regional launch on Malaysia’s Sepang circuit on May 3, 2019.
Even though it shares the same name as AMG’s GT and GT R two-door models, the GT four door is actually based on the same MRA platform underpinning the E- and CLS-class.
“The new Mercedes-AMG GT four-door CoupĂ© is the ultimate performance car, a track weapon with the versatility of a four-door CoupĂ© and a Gran Turismo which spearheads the AMG family,” said vice-president of sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Mark Raine.
The AMG-produced 4-litre biturbo V8 engine produces a ferocious 639hp in the GT63 S and maximum torque of 900Nm.
Acceleration to 100 km/h is over in 3.2 seconds, and it’ll run out of puff at a healthy 315 km/h.
AMG is rightfully proud that the GT63 S is now the “world’s fastest series production four-seater”, with an “officially measured and notarially certified” time of 7:25:41 around the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife.
That variant will come to Singapore, as well as a GT53 version powered by AMG’s 3-litre straight-six with 435hp and 520Nm of torque.
Both units will arrive in Singapore “sometime in Q3”.
With practicality as much a focus as outright performance, the GT63 S’s boot capacity of up to 395 litres is supplemented by a further 60 litres beneath the boot floor.
With the backrests folded down the capacity is up to 1324 litre.
Inside, the GT 4-door coupe’ centre console takes inspiration from its smaller siblings in the form of colour display buttons for controlling the transmission logic, suspension, ESP, exhaust system, start/stop function and rear aerofoil.
