Borneo Motors has unveiled the new Toyota Sienta Hybrid.
The model’s debut also marks the first time that the petrol-electric hybrid variant is being sold through the official agent. It was previously only available through parallel importers.
“SHIKAKUMARU” DESIGN
Using the Shikakumaru design philosophy, designers gave the compact MPV a “circle and square” silhouette featuring rounded corners.
The new Sienta Hybrid is built on the latest TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform that underpins many of the brand’s latest vehicles. According to Toyota, this gives the vehicle a light and rigid body that benefits ride comfort and handling stability.
Passengers also benefit from additional space, with headroom improved by 20mm over the previous model. In terms of practicality, the Sienta Hybrid now has a taller and wider boot aperture, which should make loading/unloading bulky items easier.
Occupant ingress/egress is even easier, too, thanks to the powered sliding doors.
SAFETY FEATURES
Aimed at family men and women, the Sienta Hybrid comes with a slew of standard safety features. These include Lane Trace Assist, Road Sign Assist, and Pre-collision Safety System. For convenience during longer drives, the MPV is also equipped with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
Six airbags, together with Parking Support Brake, further enhance the car’s credentials. The latter includes alert and automatic braking to also help prevent mishaps.
PETROL-ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN
The Sienta Hybrid has a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre 4-cylinder and an electric motor, which is fed by a nickel metal-hydride battery. Total system output is 114hp and 120Nm, although the electric motor itself can provide 150Nm.
Equipped with a CVT (continuously variable transmission), the 7-seater does zero to 100km/h in 12.5 seconds. Toyota claims it can average 25km/L.
Prices currently start from $150,888.
