Hyundai will collaborate with leading global IT and networking companies to develop its “Hyper-connected and Intelligent Car” concept, with research and development focused on connecting the “Car to Life”, as cars are increasingly at the centre of our lifestyles.
The collaboration will create a hub of relevant knowledge, plus the ability to analyse and utilise all information to enhance the lives of Hyundai car owners worldwide. The “Hyper-connected and Intelligent Car” goes beyond converging communications technology and transforms the vehicle into a “High-Performing Computer on Wheels”, which will be connected to other cars (including non-Hyundais in the same network), the office, the home and the city.
The roadmap outlines four main service fields that will help develop intelligent cars that can receive and utilise data faster than ever before: autonomous driving, smart remote maintenance, smart traffic and a mobility hub that provides security and data management for all elements of the connected car.
Autonomous driving will connect a vehicle to city and road infrastructure. Smart remote maintenance will remotely diagnose and fix vehicle issues before they become apparent. Smart traffic reduces congestion, speeds up journeys and minimises social costs by considering traffic and road conditions. Lastly, the mobility hub will feature mobile connectivity and strong computing power to make daily life with the car and its surroundings smarter than ever.
In the short- to mid-term, Hyundai will concentrate on technologies related to smartphone connectivity and smart home services, while building the core cloud infrastructure and big data that will provide the foundation for future developments.
