In order for motorists and cyclists to coexist on the roads of Singapore, there needs to be a set of house rules that both groups of road users should abide by, so we can go along our merry ways. For instance, safety regulations and speed limits should apply not just to cars, but to bicycles as well. This is as much for the safety of all road users as it is for cyclists themselves, who have precious little protection in a traffic accident.
Education efforts seem to be one-sided and aimed solely at motorists, such as road signs reminding everyone: “Safe Drivers. Safer Roads.” Perhaps the authorities should also direct their education efforts at cyclists.
