If car lovers ever wanted to see a chess game, it would probably have to be like the shogi (Japanese chess) match between 44-year-old Yoshiharu Habu and 24-year-old Masayuki Toyoshima. The contest, which took place at the Seibu Dome in Saitama, Japan, used Toyota cars as chess pieces. The Crown Athlete and Land Cruiser, for instance, represented kings, while the FJ Cruiser, Hiace and Mirai represented bishops.
Each player announced his moves via a loudspeaker and the “pieces” were moved to their designated square by a team of drivers. In line with their ages, Habu-san’s pieces consisted of older Toyota models, while Toyoshima-san got the newer cars.
