BMW, Daimler, Ford and Volkswagen (with Audi and Porsche) have agreed to work on an ultra-fast,high-power charging station network for Europe.
The joint venture will deploy a high-voltage DC (direct current) charging network for electric vehicles, with power levels of up to 350kW.
An initial batch of 400 stations will be built, with“thousands” more by 2020.
Based on the Combined Charging System standard, the stations will use a connector that is fully compatible with most current and future generations of electric vehicles.
Charging time is expected to evolve to be as convenient as refuelling at conventional petrol stations.
